S&V Aims

The Flowers

We rely on a mix of British grown and imported flowers to keep the shop full year-round. Imported flowers have a higher carbon footprint compared with British grown flowers and foliage.

Between September 2023 and August 2024, on average, 20% of our flowers and foliage we bought were British. This peaked at 38% in August 2024. We are making a concerted effort to buy from UK growers and hope to see this percentage increase as a result.

We have created a list of international growers, logging their certifications. These certifications come from bodies such as the Rainforest Alliance. This allows us to priorities buying from growers with the best welfare and environmental standards.

For more information on our buying strategy please see our full sustainability pledge.

Packaging & Waste

We use recyclable bags and brown paper, with recycled tissue. However, a key area of concern is the single use plastic cellophane we use in our packaging. Despite trialing alternatives, we are yet to find a practical and sustainable replacement. We send out flowers in recyclable tins and jam jars where possible, with the hope customers will reuse them. We also have the option of filling personal vases if requested.

Oasis floral foam, dyed flowers or ribbon are not used in our bunches.

Our waste removal company, First Mile, make sure nothing in a Scarlet & Violet's bin ends up in landfill.

The Shop

We are asking our suppliers to adopt high environmental and welfare standards; it is important we do the same.

In the shop, we use LED lightbulbs, motion sensors, and a 100% renewable energy tariff with Octopus. We have a water management plan. All employees have access to HR support.
